Nimbus (Rainclouds II), 2018
wool, thread, sewing needles
With the inviting quality of the soft, cushiony wool and the cartoon-like shape of the clouds, these pieces evoke the simplicity and whimsy of childhood drawings. Suspended from silver threads, the sewing needle raindrops contrast with the softness of the clouds, while also referencing their fibrous origins. Swaying with the movement of an opened door or a passing individual, or catching the light of the sun, these pieces are intended to interact with their environments. This work is a revival of a previous installation from 2013, entitled Rainclouds, which was intended as an ongoing project exploring material, mood, and environment.
